Study was done on the significance of this test for prostate cancer. The study showed that it only heightens the panic of the patient if it is positive but does not extend his life; and to the doctor to do radical surgical management like prostatectomy which produces complications like impotence without so much benefit to the patient's life and well-being. Using PSA for prostatic cancer screening does not even give any significance in the management of this disease. And yet, we never hear of statisticians being given awards or a Nobel price.
